Sharjah Ruler Establishes Sharjah Design Centre for Innovation

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri Decree to establish the Sharjah Design Centre (SDC). The newly formed institution will function as a legally recognized entity with full financial and administrative independence, operating under the ownership of the Sharjah Government. The SDC headquarters will be located in the Sharjah Creative Quarter within University City of Sharjah, with plans for future expansions across the emirate.

Objectives and Key Functions

The Sharjah Design Centre is dedicated to nurturing creativity, innovation, and excellence in design and manufacturing. Its core objectives include:

  • Promoting culture and entrepreneurship
  • Advancing innovation in design
  • Developing professional skills in prototype creation
  • Encouraging sustainable leadership in design quality
  • Enhancing the role of manufacturing in education, society, and the economy

To fulfill its mission, the SDC will launch sustainable design initiatives, collaborate with designers and businesses, and host global exhibitions and exchange programs. The centre will also offer professional training, co-working spaces, and exhibition areas, while engaging in commercial activities to market its products. Additionally, it will seek technical and administrative support from specialized agencies and establish strategic partnerships with key institutions.

Governance and Future Operations

The Sharjah Design Centre will be led by a director appointed by the Ruler, responsible for overseeing all administrative and financial affairs. The director's key responsibilities include:

  • Approving policies and supervising operations
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Managing contracts and representing the centre in legal matters
  • Overseeing the budget and organizational structure

The Emiri Decree also includes provisions related to financial resources, fee exemptions, and executive decision implementation, ensuring the centre’s long-term sustainability and success.
