Zaha Hadid Architects Reveals Design for Cityzen Tower in Tbilisi

Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled the design for the Cityzen Tower, a 42-story skyscraper set to redefine Tbilisi’s skyline. Expected to be completed by 2028, the tower marks the renowned studio's first project in Georgia. It will offer a mix of apartments, offices, retail spaces, and recreational areas, forming part of a broader development by Cityzen.
The design of Cityzen Tower blends with the surrounding natural landscape, featuring a striking concrete structure that cascades downward into a series of terraces. Inspired by Tbilisi’s rolling hills and river valleys, the tower creates a seamless connection between urban life and nature. The lower terraces, facing Central Park, will host cafés, restaurants, and green spaces, while the upper levels will be home to offices and residences, each with private balconies.
Sustainability and urban integration are key design priorities for the building. Its shape and orientation maximize natural light and airflow, with terraces and external louvres helping to regulate temperature and reduce heat during Tbilisi’s hot summers. This not only improves comfort but also minimizes energy consumption.
The tower’s design gradually narrows from a wide base to a diamond-shaped form, optimizing space while ensuring that every apartment enjoys exceptional views and ample natural light. Public squares and gardens will surround the tower, creating inviting communal areas. Pedestrian pathways will link the site to nearby amenities, enhancing the development’s connection with the city.
Cityzen Tower will serve as a landmark for Tbilisi’s future, representing the city’s growing architectural ambitions. The project joins other major works by Zaha Hadid Architects, including towers in Naples and a convention center in Beijing, all set to debut in 2025.
Once completed, Cityzen Tower is set to be a defining feature of Tbilisi’s skyline, merging cutting-edge design with a strong connection to the surrounding natural environment.
